AFAWA Ambassadors

The Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa (AFAWA) Initiative has named its first cohort of Ambassadors, who will advocate for increased access to finance and drive resources to women entrepreneurs across Africa. AFAWA’s vision is to fully unleash women’s entrepreneurial capacity across Africa by challenging the gender gap in access to finance across the continent.

The Ambassadors were selected for their commitment to women’s economic empowerment and their demonstrated leadership and expertise in areas such as access to finance, entrepreneurship, and business environment, in line with the AFAWA pillars. The AFAWA Ambassadors will play a critical role in engaging women entrepreneurs, as well as influencing financial industry players and policymakers. The Ambassadors, who serve two-year terms, commit to using their voice to influence women’s access to finance and policy through social media, public speaking, media engagements, and through written thought leadership to amplify AFAWA’s key messaging.

On 14 September 2022, the Bank hosted an AFAWA Ambassadors an online meet-and-greet to introduce the program, explain expectations , and brainstorm on future opportunities to jointly promote financial inclusion and women’s empowerment.
